Ancient Pathways is a
wilderness skills company in Arizona that
specializes in courses on desert survival,
outdoor safety, and land-navigation skills.
Tony Nester, the founder and head
instructor, has over 20 years of
experience in survival instruction and
outdoor leadership as well as being the
author of
four books on outdoor survival.
Tony has provided survival training for the
US Military, National Park Service,
Exxon-Mobil, and served as a consultant for
the Discovery Channel in Death
Valley. Tony is also a freelance writer and
has been published in numerous outdoor
magazines including Outside Magazine,
BackHome, Wilderness Way, and
Backwoodsman.
Ancient Pathways employs a
variety of well-seasoned instructors all trained
by Tony Nester in desert survival skills and wilderness
living. In addition, instructors have a diverse
background in outdoor leadership, wilderness
medicine, desert ecology, and southwest
archeology. Ancient Pathways also has a
partnership program with Northern Arizona
University and provides internships for graduate &
undergraduate students. |

Our
desert survival courses include plenty of
hands-on training and realistic fieldwork that
provides students with the outdoor skills and know-how
needed for desert living. We also provide some of the
most comprehensive
training programs for military personnel being
deployed to remote desert regions.
Courses are taught throughout the
canyonlands of Arizona with the majority held near our
high-desert basecamp north of Flagstaff, near the
Painted Desert and one hour from the Grand Canyon. We
also have course sites near Phoenix and Kingman,
Arizona.

trips to the desert or to learn how to prepare your
team for handling desert survival situations in remote
